Elsave Silver: Automatically controls the user’s PC & peripherals according to a schedule. Elsave Silver integrates the intelligent power modules that we use in Elsave Bronze with software developed by our technology partners at PC Power Down. Office Electrics has exclusive access to PC Power Down technology for this purpose.
Elsave Silver offers complete desktop automation as it controls the PC itself, in addition to the peripherals. It accomplishes PC control with a tiny program installed on each PC, and a small, simple program that can be installed on any existing server on your company network.
The Elsave Silver control unit can be built in to our standard Power Box under-desk module, or into our on-desk modules such as the Poco. The modules can be built to your own specification, and can include a variety of power and data sockets. Whether you choose to implement Elsave Silver in an under-desk or on-desk module, a second under-desk or on-desk module can be connected to the first one and controlled automatically.
How It Works
The first power socket is dedicated to the desktop PC, and always receives power. Peripherals such as monitors, phone chargers, lamps & printers should be plugged into the remaining sockets, which are controlled automatically by the Elsave Silver unit.
Each morning, the PC wakes up at the scheduled time and the peripherals receive power. Fifteen minutes before the scheduled shutdown time a warning message appears on the user’s screen, and they have the option to delay the shutdown if they need to continue working. At the scheduled shutdown time, or when the user has finished working, the PC automatically hibernates or shuts down and the power to the peripherals is switched off.
We use the hibernation option because all the information stored in the computer’s memory is copied to the hard disk for security, and hibernation consumes less power than standby mode. In fact, most PCs consume little more power when hibernated than they do when they are switched off. The software can also be configured to shut down the PCs as & when required, as an alternative to hibernation.
PC Power Down’s software has many additional features to make it easy and convenient to use. For example, Holiday Mode offers a single-click method to prevent desk startup when users are away from work.
Open window mode lets the IT department wake the PCs on a one-shot or regular basis to for scheduled upgrades etc. Desks can be grouped together to speed up configuration and allow departments or areas to share a common schedule.Desks that are controlled by Elsave Silver can still be started manually by pressing the power button on the PC, which will cause the PC to wake up and the peripherals to switch on.
